Green Tea

Postby kbedrich » Fri Jun 24, 2016 1:01 pm

So after 20+ years of drinking several Diet Dr. Peppers a day, I finally decided to give it up entirely after reading about the well-documented benefits of green tea. Call it a mid-life cleanse or maybe it's just fear of the future, but I can honestly say that I do feel much better after about two weeks.

Check out https://nccih.nih.gov/health/greentea and http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/benefit_of_drinking_green_tea

Some of the official (and unofficial) green tea benefits I've read about:
- tons of anti-oxidants (prevents cellular damage)
- reduced risk of heart disease
- increased alertness (probably the caffeine)
- improved artery function by lowering bad (LDL) and increasing good (HDL) cholesterol

My only reluctance to switching was the inevitable caffeine headache and the carbonation but I swapped out 1 Diet DP with 1 freshly brewed green tea and didn't have any problems. I also now drink tons of sparkling mineral water for the carbonation. No problems.

My favorites are the Yogi super-antioxidant green tea steeped for about 5 minutes and then chilled. Anyone have any favorite green teas they would like to share?
