My 14 year old son had it off and on for several years. We went to several specialists and here's what we learned:

- They will grow out of it. It may take a year or two however so be patient. The symptoms will come and go depending on the amount of activity.
- It seems more common now than before (just look around to see how many basketball players wear the Osgood-Schlatter knee band). This is likely caused by year round sports and over training.
- Most coaches know very little about it and will not have your son's best interest in mind.
- The best treatment we found is rest, Advil, and lots of foam rolling the entire leg before and after exercise.
- The knee bands did generally help some as well, but it was a temporary fix in our experience.

Good luck!
